If you recently purchased a good set of speakers or you have a good set that is a couple of years old, you are probably wondering how long those speakers will last before they need to be replaced. It is important for you to take care of them and treat them with care to avoid any damaging effects to them.
If you take good care of your speakers and you purchase from a quality brand, your speakers will last for decades without any problems. If you are rough on your them and you blast music, shake them around, and similar actions, you can expect them to last a few years give or take depending on how rough you actually are with them.
Before you discredit your speakers and toss them into the junk pile, consider the following ways to tell when they are going bad. If you notice any of these warning signs, then you will know it is time to get a new quality set and to take better care of them this time.
Static, Static, Static
If you try to play music through your speakers, but all you hear is static, it is time to get new ones. If you have blown them, the internal components will not be able to clearly project the music or sound coming from them and all that will be returned is the fuzzy and scratchy noise you hear.
One thing to keep in mind is that static can also be caused from your location or other devices around the radio. Take the time to test a couple different locations and see if the static goes away. If it does, your speakers are fine.
When speakers begin to wear down, you will notice that you have to turn the volume up really loud. Instead of being able to clearly hear your tunes at a normal level, you may need to turn the music to the highest volume setting before the music is even audible.
Test the Speakers Electrically
If you want to test your speakers for a sure answer, you can use a multi-meter tester. Simply hook up the speakers to the tester and then begin testing. You need to know what the voltage of the speakers should be to know if the output number you get is within the right range. If you receive a number too low or too high, then you know your speakers are not properly working and you may need new ones.
Get New Speakers
If you are in need of new speakers for your business or home, it is important to choose ones that are made by a reputable manufacturer and that come with a warranty. If you properly care for your speakers, they will last you a lifetime and you may only need to replace them once. If you do not care for them properly, you will need to replace them more than you would like to.
